If you run a retail store, an office, or supply security hardware to commercial buildings, you have probably hit the same problem: standard smart locks simply do not fit narrow-stile broken-bridge-aluminum (thermal-break) doors, storefront sliding doors and commercial glass entrances.
This guide explains what to look for, and why the SK-K8 Aluminum Profile Smart Lock is purpose-built for these applications.
Why standard smart locks fail on storefront and aluminum doors
- Panel too wide – conventional deadbolts need a broad stile that narrow aluminum frames do not have.
- Re-drilling required – modifying a glass or aluminum frame is slow and damages the finish.
- Not weatherproof – indoor locks fail quickly when exposed to rain and sun at an outdoor entrance.
- Wrong door thickness range – many locks only fit wooden residential doors.
What to look for in an aluminum-profile smart lock
- Ultra-narrow panel (around 38 mm) so it fits slim stiles without re-drilling.
- IP68 or better water and dust resistance for outdoor storefronts.
- Multiple unlock ways: fingerprint, passcode, RFID card, mechanical key, optional App.
- Wide door-thickness compatibility (35-55 mm standard, up to 75 mm).
- Emergency power via Type-C when the battery runs flat.
- Temporary passcodes for tenants, cleaners and contractors.
